Motivating Your Workforce

Read Dr. Workman’s management tips on how best to keep your workforce motivated.
Motivation starts with positivity and goals.

Without a strong and dedicated workforce, companies wouldn't get anything done get anything done. This is why it’s so critical to be able to motivate your workforce, no matter if you’re working in a dental office or any other kind of business. While there will always be those types of employees who are more motivated than others, there are still ways to boost motivation in any employee. Here are some of the tips I’ve found to be most effective when it comes to motivating your workforce.
Be Positive
If you want to motivate your workforce, you may want to start by looking at yourself. Do you feel like you radiate positivity and confidence? If you don’t, then you may want to change your outlook. A leader’s characteristics will rub off on his employees. If a leader is positive and motivated, his employees will likely be too.
Setting Goals in the Workplace
One of the best ways to motivate your workforce is by setting goals in the workplace. People want to have something to work toward. If they don’t have a goal, then they may feel like they’re just performing mindless labor for an indefinite period of time.
Rewarding Employees
This ties into the previous point. When your employees reach these goals, it’s important to reward them. Show them that their hard work is meaningful to you and that they’re a valued member of the team. You can reward them in a variety of different ways. It can be a bonus, extra time off, or even just something as simple as free pizza or a compliment. Even if it’s minor, it will still give them a sense of personal fulfillment.
Creating a Fun and Friendly Atmosphere
It’s no surprise that people will be more motivated when they’re upbeat rather than when they’re miserable. A great way to accomplish this is by keeping a friendly atmosphere and building a team environment. There are many different ways you can do this. You could encourage casual dress (if it’s applicable), you could bring in doughnuts for your employees to snack on, or you could throw a fun social event.
By following these steps, you’ll find that your workforce will be more motivated, which will likely improve their productivity as well.
